Schwannomatosis
I promise to get better information for this page as soon as I can.  But I rather put up the most accurate information then to misinform!

Schwannomatosis:

a rare form of NF that has only recently been recognized.

appears to affect around 1:40,000 individuals.

It is less well understood than NF1 and NF2, and features may vary greatly between patients.

Like NF2, Schwannomatosis is marked by the appearence of schwannomas; however, they DO NOT form on the acoustic nerves.

A schwannoma is a tumor of the nerve sheath (lining of the nerve)

Individuals typically experience severe pain issues related to their tumors, but no neurological disabilities.

Diagnosis usually occurrs as an adult.

The severity of this condition varies greatly between individuals.

An inheritance pattern has not been established, and this condition may skip one or two generations.

Current research may indicate that Schwannomatosis may be a separate genetic disease, not related to NF1 or NF2.  Research on any of these conditions could benifit each other due to the tumor type.
